Longlisted for last year’s Booker Prize and winner of the Desmond Elliott Prize for 2022, Maddie Mortimer’s astonishing debut, Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies is a symphonic journey through one woman’s body. It’s a celebration of desire, forgiveness and the darkness within us all. This is a story about coming-of-age at the end of a life.

Matt Rowland Hill grew up the son of a minister; a childhood fraught with bitter family conflict and the fear of damnation. After a devastating loss of faith, Matt began his search for salvation elsewhere, first with books, then with alcohol, crack and heroin. Original Sins, which was nominated for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction (2022), is a funny, yet grave memoir about looking for answers in all the wrong places, how hope arrives in unexpected forms, and how the stories we tell might help us survive.

The conversation between these two talented authors will be chaired by Lucia Osborne-Crowley, a writer and journalist. Her first book, I Choose Elena, was published in 2019 and has been published in four territories and three languages. Her second book, My Body Keeps Your Secrets (both published by The Indigo Press), won the 2022 Somerset Maugham Prize. Her third book, Witness: The Trial of the Century, will be published by 4th Estate in 2023.
