Join historian Rosa Campbell in conversation with Lucy Delap for a timely discussion of The Book That Taught the World to Orgasm and then Disappeared, her new account of Shere Hite, a once-famous but now largely forgotten figure of second-wave feminism. When The Hite Report was published in 1976, it sold millions of copies and transformed public conversations about sex, marriage, and female pleasure. Built on thousands of women’s testimonies, it challenged long-held assumptions and offered a radical rethinking of intimacy and autonomy. Yet despite its enormous cultural impact, Hite’s legacy has faded from view. In conversation with Lucy Delap, author of Feminisms: A Global History, Campbell explores why certain feminist voices endure while others are written out—and what Hite’s story reveals about the present moment, as women’s rights once again come under pressure.
