However, coming back to this collection a year after its success I’m still struck by how smart, beautiful and densely populated these poems are. Some are blunt, as in ‘(d) Sucking pigs’ which has the line; ‘I imagine your mother cranking the spit’. Some are soft, such as ‘Earthward’. And none waste a single word.
