What happens when the good guy turns out to be anything but?

When a young soldier from a small Maine town dies in Iraq, he is mourned as a hometown hero. But the discovery of disturbing photographs he took during the war threatens to unravel everything his community believes about him.

In her debut novel Good Guys, Mindy Misener follows two estranged sisters caught in the fallout, one of whom sees in the photographs the opportunity for a journalistic breakthrough. What begins as an attempt to expose the truth becomes a disturbing examination of American patriotism, religious loyalty and the protection afforded to men deemed beyond reproach.

Misener joins Emily Itami, author of Fault Lines and Kakigori Summer, to discuss the mythology of the good guy and what happens when telling the truth comes at a personal cost.
